A Busy 2018 So Far

I can’t believe my last post was in January. In a way, it feels like time has flown yet somehow also been a slog. It’s been filled with plenty of personal and professional ups-and-downs. It feels like I’ve been on a rollercoaster for the last few months.

The number of hours I’ve been putting in at my job have been going up. It’s mainly due to shifting responsibilities, and bugs don’t fix themselves. Honestly, I get home and I’m pretty wiped. I feel like that’s mainly from me being hyper-focused at work and then having a decent drive home. I also had a couple of moments where I really realized that I still have so much to learn.

The kids are obviously growing up too which comes with its own stresses. Our oldest has been bringing home colds for what now feels like an eternity. We also missed the Midwest Gaming Classic in Milwaukee, WI due to illness. Honestly, everything feels fairly overwhelming for 2018.

On the bright side, I’m looking to start picking up personal development again. I’m trying to explore different frameworks for developing games and prototypes. I’m hoping I’ll eventually get something out there. It’s going to be a slow process.

I’m going to start off simple and add complexity. I want to find mechanics that are fun and can stand on their own without nice art and story. To me, that all feels like a great polish on a good game. I’ll start trying to look at what I would like to make. Hopefully my next post has more information on that.
