30 / 11 / 2008 -- Pushing It

Greetings.

As the week started, I felt pretty good about getting everything done a little ahead of time so I could relax (v. - to release or bring relief from the effects of tension, anxiety, etc.) for at least a day. But, as the world is so eager to prove me wrong every time, this week was especially hectic, due in no small part to the end-of-semester project for one of my computer science classes.

I wouldn't go so far as to say I hate that project - I have spent a considerable amount of time on it, yes; and that investment has come between me and my long-sought-after relaxation. But, I am reasonably proud of the end result, and the journey has brought quite a bit of Perl / JavaScript / AJAX experience with it. All in all, a fair trade for my time.

Because I was working on said project for nearly every waking moment during my short "Thanksgiving break", I didn't get to Project Omega until tonight. Yes, this week's tasks were completed on time and within the quality that I expect of myself, so no worries there. If nothing else, this proves that I can, indeed, buckle down and get everything done even when under the gun. Believe me, completing an entire week's worth of tasks in one night is not exactly the best policy, even under less stressful conditions.

Up next, Week XI of Phase II: entering all data - legacy projects, backburner projects, current projects, et cetera - into the database that was created all but fifteen minutes ago. Manually. With no GUI support outside of phpMyAdmin's basic query interface.

Not exactly the most exciting thing in the world, but this does mean I get to review all the data I've been hording for years now. Having read most of it over fairly recently, I do get a decent amount of entertainment out of it. It's like opening a time capsule that you forgot existed, only the material within seems...ahead of its time.

Sometimes I wish I had the creativity I had back then.

Mr. Bond, signing off.
