Greetings.
Real short this time...I hope.
Fake accounts on the forum are really getting out of hand. Therefore, effective immediately, there is a complete, blanket ban on all new registrations. Should anyone really want to register, please
e-mail me, and I will set up the account manually. The likelihood of any legitimate registration is slim to nil, at least until ZHP turns an actual "production". Which brings me to my next point...
I feel like I need to justify my return to UT modding, to myself if to no one else. ZHP isn't working out how I had envisioned it; while that's probably true of most things out there, I couldn't stand it any more. Admittedly, I haven't been working on the network...I talked about that already. That, and the fact that I made a lot of very hefty promises to finish the Perfect Dark mod...well...I've always been one to
try not to welch on my promises, especially those I fully intend to keep in my lifetime. At the very least, modding again will stick the "productions" back into Zero Hour Productions, if only in a very loose sense of the word. A small victory is a victory nonetheless.
Surprisingly enough, there is still interest in the Perfect Dark mod, as when I asked over at the
BeyondUnreal forums which legacy project I should undertake once again, the resounding replies were "Perfect Dark mod". Peculiar, but it makes me smile -- personally, I never considered myself that great a modder, even back in the day, but if people still remember what I did, even after two years plus have passed...well...for lack of more eloquent words, that's really awesome.
On the internal side of things, a few of the ZHP admins have made it back to "active" status, and as such, have revealed a bit of their own activities. From what they've told me, we've finally managed to get almost everyone working on something. That's really what I've wanted to happen all along, in some capacity; everyone working on something, even if it's not the same thing. Another small victory.
In other network-related news, I've been keeping a fairly close eye on the upcoming release of phpBB 3. Since phpBB 2 seems abysmal at stemming the flood of bot accounts (or maybe I'm just too inexperienced to use it effectively), why not look to the future? I'm testing out the latest release candidate (RC5, I believe), and it looks pretty good so far. Guess we'll find out once the release goes stable -- no idea when that's going to happen.
That's all for now. I think I'm starting to get the hang of this semi-regular-updates thing.
Mr. Bond, signing off.
