19 Apr 2010 - Embarkation
Greetings.

Yes, it is a word.

Pursuant to fulfilling the promise I made a week ago - i.e., that it wouldn't be another month until the next update - I have integrated the Project Omega-developed interface with current and archived content. This is just one step of very, very many, but at least it looks a lot nicer than before. And this marks the Network's first Tactical Directive (TD-00) completed!

I've also integrated a feature I had developed for my senior Capstone project's site that takes a bit of the work out of making news posts - namely, the autogeneration of the most recent news list on the left side of the portal (you can click anywhere in the box to open that news item). While the posting system isn't quite to a point of true awesomeness, the interim solution will help out until I can integrate a true database back-end.

Speaking of, one of the next objectives here will be to develop a true news- / article-posting system that requires no manual shifting of files. This will take some time, as I need to consider the main portal, the news feed, and the Forums the vectors of news. Chances are the Forum posts will still need te be manually done, at least for the near future. But, in order to do any of this, user authentication needs to be integrated. More on that in a bit.

Take special note of the new audio broadcast (sitting nicely on the main portal), as that is the new system in place for future audio content. Granted, that may not be its permanent position or size, but it beats the old one in terms of looks, flexibility, and content. I am decently proud of its dynamic integration; as long as you are browsing content within the site itself (i.e., internal / local vs. external pages), the audio will not be interrupted.

All in all, the content here should not have changed much, but most of it has moved around. Some of the links may not remain in their current positions for future updates, but for now I am happy with the layout. One item that has been removed is the to-do list, replaced by the Network Strategic and Tactical Directives.

And since we're making decent strides here, why not keep the momentum going? There is a new Tactical Directive (TD-02) posted, as well as a few new Strategic Directives in draft status (SD-02, SD-03, SD-04; not publicly visible yet). More news will follow when those Strategic Directives are enacted in full.

Mr. Bond, signing off.
