17 / 8 / 2008 -- Chronometric Distortions

Greetings.

There are way too few synonyms for "time". Hence the word "chronometric". Cough.

It's been quite an eventful week, more so than I anticipated. Despite the extra day off I allocated for Project Omega's Week VII, I ended up running short on time to deliver the payload planned. As such, Week VIII will start with finishing up Week VII's duties.

So, such an eventful week undoubtedly has many stories, right? Correct!

My summer internship is over. I had a really great time; the work was fun, the pay was pretty good, and the experience was invaluable. Apparently they thought I did a pretty good job, too, because they offered me another internship for next summer! Woohoo!

This relates to Project Omega insomuch as I spent (almost) my entire Friday night packing up my apartment. Afterwards, I was too tired to do much else besides watch the Olympics. I'm sick of swimming and gymnastics...they never show the good stuff.

Also, Saturday was spent traveling (thank you, six hour drive) and catching up with family. I'll only be home for another four days before I have to pack up (again) and return to my college studies. Such a runaround sometimes... Sunday night I spent with a friend that I haven't seen in many months. We went to a movie, talked a bit, and generally caught up on things. Life, the universe...you know, the usual.

In more exciting news, I finished one of my side projects on Sunday night, as well. Twice a year, I take a little break to put together a mix CD in celebration of a certain little-known holiday event (which only occurs once a year). The holiday I refer to, of course, is none other than Winter-een-mas!. You can find more info at that link there, or check out the myriad of groups on Facebook. Of course, one would prefer if you check out a certain group, one that's also in the newly-added Permalinks section on the right-hand side of the page. Also note that there's now a link to the Zero Hour Productions Forums...again. Hopefully it will stay put this time, hmmm?

Speaking of newly-added sections, there is one additional change to the site overall. The podcast-thingie has been removed, as it hasn't been updated in...many months, and the person kind of "in charge" of it has since left. Bummer, but every new challenge affords us a new opportunity!

Aaaaaand...speaking of forums, there seems to be a new influx of bogus / spam / abused forum accounts popping up all of a sudden. No matter, as this gives me some much needed experience in the field of abuse reporting! Yay!

Seriously, though, they're getting annoying. If any of you spammers / hackers / whatever are reading this, please go off and do something useful for the world. I hear that Slashdot and Digg are popular targets. Why don't you focus some time there? Or better yet, go buy some books and learn something, preferably a topic that has you using as little Interwebs bandwidth as possible.

One more thing: I was reading some articles about vidjagames (the preferred spelling, by the way) when I came across a particularly interesting quote from Atsushi Inaba, one of the bigwigs from the now-defunct Clover Studios (makers of such fine titles as Okami). He said (and I'm paraphrasing a bit here) that art is something you do purely for yourself. I find this intriguing, since much of my work revolves around fields that could be considered art in a more traditional sense of the word. It's enough to give me pause, since I hadn't really considered the definition of art in terms of its intended audience. Though as of late, I find Inaba's definition holding more and more true. After all, the self is one's greatest critic...

Just something to think about.

Mr. Bond, signing off.
